I'm Tom, a biologist living in Białowieża Forest in eastern Poland. I have a PhD from Warsaw University on how wolves shape ecosystems. My latest research explores how people and wolves influence beaver impacts on trees.
Poland has a rich natural heritage. Here you can find the kind of nature that has been wiped out over time in western Europe. Through my scientific work I aim to contribute towards unlocking its ecological secrets.
Half Polish, half British, I grew up near Snowdonia in Wales – a landscape denuded of trees where you'd be hard pressed to see any wild animal greater than a squirrel. After moving to Białowieża, I was struck by how normal it is for wolves, bison and moose to canter through gardens. This wildlife was once common across the whole of Europe.
As scientists who study this magical wood, we aim to share the cutting edge of European ecological research. We'll reveal science's secrets while exploring woods where few people ever go.

Guest guides: During the tour, 1-2 guest guides, also local scientists, will be invited to spend an afternoon with you, sharing their expertise on the forest's ecology and conservation.
A cross between a wildlife tour and a seminar. Learn how an old-growth forest works, explore wolf-prey dynamics, and understand how beavers engineer river valleys. Guided by a PhD ecologist who lives and researches here.
"We spent four days with Tom discovering Bialowieza Forest and couldn't be more satisfied. Tom has extensive knowledge of the history of the forest, its ecosystems and mammals, especially wolves and beavers. As a photography collective we had specific requirements for our trip and Tom has perfectly aligned his program with our wishes."

"Tom took our group of students on a guided tour through a part of the Bialowieza Forest. It was one of the highlights of our trip to the Bialowieza Region. Tom is truly an expert in his field and was able to interconnect aspects of politics, wildlife and economics which was just perfect for us."

"Tom's deep knowledge and love for the forest combined with his easy-going personality created the perfect way to connect with the forest on a deeper level. I highly recommend Tom's tour of Białowieża Forest. It is a rare opportunity to immerse yourself in the intricate workings of an old-growth forest, with an experience that is both deeply educational and awe-inspiring."
